My oldest son, Elijah (5) loved Toy Story when he was 3 (which is the age he was when my youngest, Judah, turned 1 and Bakeosaurus Rex was born.) his FAVORITE Toy Story Toons was/is Partysaurus Rex (WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN IT?! It is okay, Disney Pixar has a Sneak Peek on YouTube, click here to see it.)

Since he loved it so much, naturally -saurus Rex got added to a lot of words to describe things to Elijah.  A few examples include:

The week before Judah’s 1st birthday, I had barricaded myself in the kitchen using baby gates and kitchen chairs so that I could practice and refine my baking projects for Judah’s birthday party.  Whenever Elijah would ask for my attention (with his father sitting right next to him, isn’t that how it always goes?) I would say, “Just a minute buddy, mommy is Bakeosaurus Rex right now, I am almost done”  So you could say,

It stuck.

1. Have you ever noticed BRex only has one tooth?  The reason why is because Judah only had one tooth on his first birthday.
2. Did you notice what hand BRex is holding his spoon in?  Why the left?  I am left handed.
3. Why is Rex’s bowl red?  Red is my husband, Nicks favorite color.
4. Why is Rex’s hat too big for his head?! A chefs is too big for Judah, he is who I drew Rex after, remember, although I think Judah is going to be right handed, the verdict is still out.

It has been a completely amazing experience working out of the shared kitchen.  I have learned SO MUCH, and my cookies SOLD OUT my first week!!!

Let’s back it up, it hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows…

This has been a period of relearning.

I fought (through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit!) feelings of defeat and frustration as I relearned EVERYTHING.

(Let me also say, My husband has been very supportive, my mother-in-law has been very generous with her time, watching the boys, and the owner has been SO HELPFUL! She and the other business owners through the kitchen are great!)

I am relearning everything, from baking times and temps to my routine of chill-roll-cut-bake, which has now become chill-room temperaturize-roll-chill-cut-bake.

Cutouts and Dino Grahams relearned, I shall tackle my other treats some other time.

I also learned exactly HOW LONG everything takes.

Like how long it takes for Royal Icing to dry.  At home I would just come back to my project in the morning. It takes HOURS, lots of hours to dry.

Decorating also takes hours.

The whole process takes days! Hahah! Which I guess I never paid much attention to before.  One day to make and chill the dough.  One day to bake the cookies.  One (sometimes two) day(s) to decorate.  (Half a day to dry) One day to package.  It truly is a labor of love and boy do I LOVE IT!

After much prayer and being calmed to wait on God’s timing, we are taking the paperwork steps to begin another chapter in the Bakeosaurus Rex book.  Now to wait… again… for everything to be properly filed and submitted so we can begin baking out of a shared kitchen in La Grange, Illinois, United Kitchen.

We are making great use of this time by taking the opportunity to refine our menu (thanks to all of our taste testers in the community, who have been receiving Feedback Packs, and helping us refine not only our menu, but our recipes too! see our Facebook for more details ) and order the supplies we need to hit the ground running when we get the green light.  Check out our labels! Part of my morning routine USED TO BE <click email icon>, <click all mailboxes>, <click edit>, <select anything and everything that is in my inbox in search of IMPORTANT emails>,  <click trash>.  All the while rolling my eyes, doing that guttural sigh of annoyance, then the moment passes, and it is over.  TILL TOMORROW!  (what a way to start the day! what was I thinking??)

Today I was on the real computer, not my phone.  Today I decided to put a stop to the morning insanity and UNSUBSCRIBED to a TON of meaningless email ads, subscriptions, deals, and sites that flood my inbox on a daily basis.  It took a while, but as I was doing it, I got to thinking:

I am decluttering aka unsubscribing in efforts to clean up my inbox so that I see what is important.  To see my Bible Study Fellowship emails, to see emails from my family, friends, my son’s preschool, from our church.  I long to be exposed to only things that really MATTER when I look at my inbox.  Which got me to thinking:

What else in my life (not just my inbox) do I need to “unsubscribe” from?  What else is clouding my life (not just my email) from what is MOST important?  What in my life ISN’T God honoring?

Dear God, thank you for bringing to my attention the need to “unsubscribe” from all things clouding my vision of YOU!  Please help my friends, and family and BRex fans to have awakened within them what it is you long for them to “unsubscribe” from should that be your will.  AMEN! (or as Judah would say “Ahh MEAN!”
